Here are the correct answers to the previous problem set:  (1)  The answer is simple :
Black to play wins because  there is a one move mate!!!
1.  ...  Qe3 # mate!!!
(2)  'ranks'  are rows, the path a pawn would walk  in fulfilling its dream to become a queen.  Every pawn has this dream, to become a  queen one day.
The  'files'  are the columns. You would often hear the phrases "open file"   "closed file" or "semi-open file".  We will learn what they  mean later, but for now,  remember that   'files'  mean columns. (3) Endgame indeed! Chess Endgame is the most difficult stage of the game.

Chess-5

Answer to the previous problem:
(1) Two ways, with the queen or with the knight: Qxd4 or Nxd4.
(2) There are two white knights, so this was a trick question. One of them is on f3, the other is on b1

Extra credit
(1) There are three different stages of chess games and they are : 
(i) Opening
(ii) Middle game
(iii) End game.

(2) Any pawn (not just the pawn landing on the queen's square) that  can travel all the way to the last rank can become a queen.

(1) White has an extra rook and it has a pawn almost about to queen. But it is black's turn. Can black win here?

Answer to the previous problem:

Todays Note:

The chess pieces have some values. Some are more valuable than the others. The King is the most valuable piece and it is priceless. So Kings safety is the most important goal in chess.


Once your king is safe, the next most important goal is to attack the opponent king. But doing this directly is difficult. You have to first try to attack it's defenders. Here is a list to show the values of each of the chessmen. 


But the values change depending on the position and condition of the game. The most mysterious piece on the board is the Knight.
